About Mica
Mica is widely distributed and occurs in igneous, metamorphic and sedimentary regimes. Mica is invaluable in the electrical industry because of its unique combination of physical, chemical and thermal properties, low power loss factor, dielectric constant and dielectric strength. Dieletric strength is the ability to withstand high voltage without puncturing. Mica is invaluable in the electrical industry because of its unique combination of physical, chemical and thermal properties, low power loss factor, dielectric constant and dielectric strength.
The Mica Industrial Applications
- Electronics :Mica has a high dielectric strength and excellent chemical stability, making it a favoured material for manufacturing capacitors for radio frequency applications. It has also been used as an insulator in high voltage electrical equipment, and between the bars of commutators in direct current motors and generators .
- Isinglass :Thin transparent sheets of mica called “isinglass” were used for peepholes in boilers and lanterns because they were less likely to shatter compared to glass when exposed to extreme temperature gradients.
- Other :Resin -bonded mica or micanite or built up micanite from splittings or agglomerated micanite made from pulped mica powder are called micanites. All these products have additives, like resins, and the resultant products, while having inferior insulation properties to natural “mica insulators” are called micanites or micafoliums.
The Mica World Resources
India is the leading producer of muscovite mica followed by Brazil. Other producing countries are the USA, Tanzania, Rhodesia and Argentina. The USA generally produces scrap mica. The leading producers of phlogopite mica are Malagasy Republic and Tanzania whose average annual production are 1,000 tonnes and 300 tonnes respectively. Small production of phologopite is reported from Canada, Tanzania and India.
Mica Beneficiation process
Mica is the most widely distributed rock-forming minerals, and The most common mineral species are biotite, muscovite, phlogopite, lithium mica, sericite. According to the nature and the different types of mica material, there are different methods. Sheet mica according to the shape. Crushed mica adopts winnowing.
- Dry process:coarse crushing → Miscellaneous → separation → fine crushing → Grinding → Classification → Packing
- Wet process:Washing → coarse crushing → fine crushing → grinding → separation → drying → classification → packing
Mica crusher and Mica Grinding Mill
- Jaw crusher is the most commonly used crusher machine for crushing mica. The capacity of small jaw crusher is 1t/p. While the large scale jaw crusher is 300-800 tons/p.
- Hammer crusher is another widely used mica crushing machine. It can crush mica into mica flake less than 15 mm.
- Ball mill is the most common mica mill machine. The finished size is 0.074-0.4mm, and the capacity of ball mill is 1-30 ton/p.
- Raymond mill is also the common mica mill used in mica beneficiation plant. It’s fineness can be upto 0.044mm. The capacity is 1-3t/p.
The common mica powders are 6-10 mesh, 10-20 mesh, 20-40mesh, 40-60 mesh, 80mesh, 100mesh, 200mesh, 325mesh, 400mesh, 600mesh, 800mesh, 1000mesh, 1250mesh, 2500mesh.
Besides these mica crushing and powder machine, there are other important beneficiation processing machinery.
Vibraitng screen is the essential mica screening machine. According to the requirements of fineness, we can install the different layers with different screen pore size.
